Essential Principles for Your Healing Journey

Shed Substance Shame

We’re exploring the foundational building blocks for a powerful recovery program that goes beyond just letting go of drugs and alcohol. Understanding the importance of emotional regulation and facing inner struggles like depression and trauma is essential for genuine healing and growth.

Checking our ego at the door and addressing shame from substance abuse are vital steps in the recovery process. We discuss the concept of “knowing thyself to be true,” breaking free from external influences and taking responsibility for our actions.

Accepting what is and moving forward without attempting to bend reality is essential for a fulfilling life. Let’s empower ourselves to embrace a naturally high state of being and find inner peace. Tune in and discover the keys to a fulfilling recovery journey.

In this episode, you will learn the following:
1. The importance of emotional regulation.
2. Know thyself to be true and take responsibility.
3. Creating new neural pathways.
4. Recovery is not always about abstinence.

Healing for Growth and Wellbeing

In today’s episode, I sit down with the brilliant Elias Abdel Ahad to dive into the depths of healing and growth. We’ll uncover the secrets of understanding our body’s needs beyond psychotherapy and manual therapy.

Elias starts by shedding light on the importance of integrating all the components of the human body. He explains how the intricacies of the ego connect to our physical body and how our upbringing plays a significant role in who we are today. We delve into the powerful integration of the gut and brain. Elias enlightens us on the gut’s role in producing serotonin and the importance of being mindful of our eating habits to maintain our health and wellbeing. Depression can stem from imbalances but we have tips for taking agency for our own health and well-being.

From there, we dive into the necessity of changing the model of health, including conscious parenting and healing. Healing is not about removing trauma but learning to deal with it flexibly. The journey toward change requires awareness and willingness. This conversation is a gentle reminder of the power of understanding ourselves from within.

In this episode, you will learn the following:
1. Ego stems from the heart and the brain.
2. Practical tips for eating better.

Unlocking the Secrets of the Nervous System and Reconnecting Within

Somatic Therapies

In this fast-paced world, it’s important we pause and take the time to reflect on who we are and what truly nourishes our souls. There is no one-size-fits-all approach. Holistic health recognizes that each individual has unique requirements and that healing should be tailored accordingly. That’s why somatic therapies, once considered alternative, are now gaining mainstream recognition. They address not only the physical aspects of our well-being but the emotional and energetic dimensions, allowing for a comprehensive healing experience.

Often, we seek solutions by focusing solely on the surface symptoms, but getting to the root cause is paramount. However, it’s important to acknowledge that we can’t always start there. Our innate desire for safety drives us to detect threats, whether real or perceived. Chronic trauma and stress can shape us and inadvertently hinder us from receiving the beautiful gifts that relationships and connection offer.

What if the very armor you’ve built to protect yourself from harm prevents you from embracing love, joy, and deep connections? I invite you to join me as we embark on a journey of vulnerability and discover the power of taking off our armor with co-regulation. Co-regulation becomes the first step towards self-regulation, allowing us to cultivate healthier relationships and create harmonious connections with the world around us.

As we explore these transformative ideas, I invite you to take a moment to reflect on your journey of self-discovery. By investing time and energy into understanding ourselves, we open the door to a life filled with purpose, fulfillment, and abundance.

In this episode, you will learn the following:
1. We need to know who we are and what we really need.
2. The importance of getting to the root of the problem.
3. The detection of a threat or a perceived threat.
4. What happens when your adaptive mechanisms become the very thing that prevents you from receiving all the wonderful things that relationships and connection can offer?
5. How do we get healthy co-regulation?

Trying New Approaches to Achieve Your Goals

Achieve Your Goals

I truly believe that you have the power to create the life you desire and achieve your goals. It all starts with shifting your perspective. It’s time to take a closer look at ourselves and recognize the truth about our capabilities. We all have unique talents and strengths that can help us achieve our dreams but sometimes, we fall into a pattern of negative self-talk that prevents us from recognizing our potential.

To break out of this cycle, I encourage you to cultivate a holistic approach to your life. This means focusing on your physical, mental, and emotional well-being. By taking care of yourself in all aspects, you’ll build the resilience and confidence needed to overcome external obstacles.

I also believe that a strong support system is essential to success. Surround yourself with people who uplift and encourage you. And don’t be afraid to share your truest feelings and thoughts with them, as vulnerability can be a catalyst for growth.

Remember, you are your own best experiment. Don’t be afraid to try new things and explore different approaches. With an open mind and a willingness to learn, you can achieve anything you set your mind to.

In this episode, you will learn the following:
1. Why most people seem to think that there’s something outside of themselves that prevents them from achieving what they want.
2. The power of open-mindedness.
3. How to be your own best science experiment.

Transforming Grief Into an Opportunity for Self-Advancement with Shelley Pomerantz

Overcoming Grief

Through her own journey of healing, Shelley Pomerantz uncovers the irony that unconditional love is the key to overcoming the grief, shame, and inconsolable heartache from her chaotic and complex childhood.

Shelley Pomerantz is a registered psychotherapist and national speaker with over 40 years of experience in family, marital and individual therapy. She is the co-founder of Young Lawrence Center counseling and consulting, and author of the book “What Your Mother Never Told You About Love, Sex and Power”.

Shelley Pomerantz grew up in a complex and chaotic family with undiagnosed addiction and mental illness. As a child, she experienced her mother’s dark thunderclouds and emotional outbursts, leading her to seek understanding about the pain and fear she felt. Through reading and her own intuition, she found her way to McGill and eventually to Toronto, where with her partner Michael, they explored family health. When their daughter Rachel had inconsolable moments, they realized the inconsolable grief state started young and was relational. It was then that Shelley realized the walls she had put up to protect herself and the family shame she had felt were preventing her from true emotional connection.

In this episode, you will learn the following:
1. How can we understand and heal our own “inconsolable” grief states that can arise in relationships?
2. What is the impact of “toxic shame” and “toxic perfectionism” on relationships?
3. How do we recognize and work through the “emotional narratives” that arise in our primary love relationships?

My “Why” – Achieving True Happiness Through Self-Discovery and Healing

I want to delve into the significance of overcoming challenges in life and how they play a crucial role in shaping our character. There is a level of importance in engaging our emotional brain when making positive changes and the need to embrace the lessons learned from difficulties. I’ll share my personal story of discovery and my passion for helping others on their journey to wholeness and fulfillment.

I believe that true happiness and satisfaction in life are achieved through small, consistent habits and not just a single, drastic change. My children were the driving force behind my journey of self-discovery and healing and my desire to pass on these lessons to others. I have created a comprehensive program to aid others in their quest for personal growth and fulfillment.

Rachel, and I have to be the living embodiment of the work to be able to work and teach this work. I’m excited to introduce our new program Total Recovery Practioner blending my clinical expertise with Rachel’s NLP Certification and Training. This work can benefit everyone.

“You have the responsibility to invoke your healer.”

What you will learn from this episode:

  1. How can we take agency for self-healing and leave our old stories behind?
  2. How can we recognize and break free of defense mechanisms that are getting in the way of our lives?
  3. How can we make changes that are sustainable and not just get momentum with habitual changes?
  4. How our struggles and adversity help us become the people we’re meant to be.
