Language is key when talking to our loved ones about drug use and overdose prevention. This is the work of The Recovery Concierge, practicing family-centred care, where how we say things is as important as what we say! Helping families bridge the gap back to reconciliation when relations are strained through the destruction of Addiction and Mental Illness. #Mentalhealth #mentalillness #addiction #fraserinstitute

Times are changing and it is about time! For long periods of time, we have been sold the bill of goods that there is only one way to treat Addiction and that is with the Abstinence Model and the 12 Step Fellowship of AA.
This is one way and a program that has worked for millions, but it doesn't work for everyone. We need to be able to have alternate solutions to treat Mental Illness and Addictions by keeping people engaged in the treatment process, allowing them the opportunity to mitigate the loss of health, relationships, self-esteem and upgrade their quality of their life overall.
As long as we are engaging with them, we have a greater chance of helping them whilst reducing their suffering in silence increasing the stigma ten-fold. Personally, I don't care how someone gets well as long as they do. Lets celebrate all paths to Recovery!

I am a survivor of three generations of mental illness and addiction and I am proud of the adversity I have had to endure and overcome. What makes life even more challenging is the stigma that is attached to mental health issues as compared to physical illness and we suffer in silence increasing the stigma ten fold.. So for those of you who haven't managed to find your voice, I recover out loud with the hope that we may all be able to do so in time. In the blog below I address some of these issues. #mentalhealthawarness #addiction #recovery #sobriety #freedomfromaddiction #mentalheatlh #wedorecover #AF #empowerment #spirtual ... See MoreSee Less

It was as if I wasn’t hearing the right words coming out of his mouth. I knew I wasn’t equipped for this situation!!!! I asked him if I...
